En 1857, les Gladu reçoivent la visite de l’arpenteur et géologue anglais Henry Hind. Ils l’accueillent chaleureusement dans la maison où ils demeurent depuis plusieurs années et où grandissent leurs enfants. Leur lot de rivière se situe : « on the right bank of the Red River, five miles south of Fort Garry » [1] ce qui correspond plus ou moins au territoire actuel du boulevard Bishop Grandin, du côté est de la rivière Rouge.
